A Burning Sunset

This past weekend I had the pleasure of heading out for some photos with another good friend of mine — Ryan Simpson. It has been a long time since we've both seen an epic sunset, so come Sunday we were hoping that Mother Nature would be on our side.

Our travels took us to the rocky coast of South Down to shoot some seascapes. Like every weekend for the past month the forecast wasn't overly promising. But if like me you come to take an interest in photography you'll quickly realise that forecasts are merely a guide at best. The only way to guarantee success is to head out and make your own luck!

When we arrived the light was already pretty interesting. Shafts would beam through the dense cloud every now and again providing some real interest to the scene. Then came sunset... As the sun slowly reached the base of the cloud the horizon immediately lit up with an intense golden glow — it was epic!

But that wasn't the end! No, no, the finale had yet to come. As the sun slowly set the clouds began to part — casting the most phenomenal colours as far as the eye could see. It was breathtaking.
