The Magical Mournes

This weekend I am back posting about another adventure with friend and fellow photographer Alistair Hamill. For many, Friday evenings are reserved for relaxing after a long week of work. For those of us that are slightly mad in the head, we hike into the Mournes with a camera, hoping for the most epic of conditions.

The plan was to head up Ott Mountain for a few photos overlooking Spelga Dam before catching the sunset from Doan. I've experienced some changeable weather in the Mournes before, but nothing like this. We were treated to strong gusts, dreamy crepuscular rays, hard/soft light, and best of all, a sudden downpour of snow.

Sadly when it came to sunset the best light was blocked by a large bank of cloud in the final 15-30mins, but that didn't stop us from getting some interesting shots.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Go and spend some time in the Mournes. If you hit the right conditions you'll be in for the most epic of adventures.
