The Kingdom of Mourne

Last weekend wasn't all about the aurora...

You may recall me sharing a few photos from the rugged hills overlooking Belfast not too long ago. This week, I'm sharing photos from the finest peaks Northern Ireland has to offer - the Mourne Mountains.

It was Saturday morning and I was fortunate enough to be invited for a hike up Slieve Binnian with fellow photographers Alistair Hamill and Peter Lennon. The weather was impeccable, and the recent snow fall made the landscape even more picturesque. Like many of the peaks in the Mournes this was my first climb camera in-tow, so I was excited to see what the route had to offer. Lucky for the three of us, there were plenty of photographic opportunities.

As we progressed further towards the summit of Slieve Binnian the landscape continued to change, with ice and snow gradually increasing - it was like we were stepping into winter. After reaching the top and taking many photos along the way we decided to try and catch sunset from the lower levels at Buzzard's Roost which overlooks Ben Crom Reservoir. Unfortunately, the best light wasn't able to reach us so I'll have to get out and catch the golden hour on a different day to make up for it.

For now, our spring snowfall will have to do.
