An Autumn Adventure

After several days of poor weather and few opportunities for getting out with the camera Sunday finally looked like a day for photography. The plan was to capture as much autumn colour as possible, which inevitably meant travelling to Tolleymore Forest. Then came the text from Alistair...

I was asked if I'd like to hike into the Mournes for sunset — and to be honest, I wasn't really that fussed. But given how epic the mountains are I decided I could probably grab a few photos in Tolleymore and then climb Slieve Bearnagh. So I said yes and met up with Alistair.

After discovering that Tolleymore was completely packed I quickly became glad that we were sticking to our guns and venturing into the Mournes. What we didn't expect, however, was that we would capture most epic conditions we have ever seen — the cloud inversion to rule all inversions!

For a good hour or more we fired our shutters like crazy tourists, marveling at the landscape before us. It was utterly mesmerizing watching as the cloud rolled over the hills, and at times even consumed us!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Mournes deliver some of the most epic conditions you will ever see. So get your boots on and go for a walk. I guarantee you won't regret it!
