The Big Stone

The Cloughmore stone, also known as 'The Big Stone' is a huge granite boulder found in Kilbroney park. Geologists believe this impressive feature was left behind during the ice age, while local folklore claims it was thrown here by Finn Mac Cool during a fight with a Scottish Giant. Regardless of its history, it is an exquisitely placed feature overlooking Rostrevor and the surrounding area, and somewhere I've been looking to photograph for a while now.

I actually got this shot after work on Friday - after a quick look at the weather forecast I thought that if I was going to get any photographs this weekend, Friday would be the night to do it. So I quickly got my gear together and made my way to Rostrevor for sunset. I wasn't terribly optimistic about how the night would turn out given the cloud cover, but boy was I glad that I made the trip.

It's hard to beat an evening spent with a beautiful sunset in an incredibly picturesque location like this, and definitely one of the best ways to finish off a week at work. To top things off I made a stop at the Narrow Water keep on my way home for another photo that I've been meaning to take.
